Golden Globe Awards 2021 is scheduled to be organized on Feb 28, 2021. The date is delayed due to the impact of pandemic coronavirus on film and TV industry, according to the HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association).
According to the organization, it is “to accommodate both domestic and international film and television productions, the HFPA will provide further guidance around eligibility, voting period and revised nominations announcement timing in the coming weeks.”
Usually, the awards are held on the first Sundays of the calendar year. This year, it was held on 5th Jan. The function was hosted by Ricky Gervais. It is in the news that next year’s ceremony will be hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. Though, more details about the occasion are unknown. But it is disclosed that it will air live on NBC.
28 Feb was originally the date of Academy Awards 2021. The date is given to the Golden Globe Awards. No, the Academy Awards will be taking place on 25th April. This might shatter the schedule of the Academy Awards’ nominees. The nominations will be announced on 5th March. This has inflicted the delaying of the dates of other award functions as well. The BAFTA Film Awards have also shifted the date to 11th April.
The Ceremony Decided New Eligibility Rules
There are now new eligibility rules from Golden Globe and Oscars that have disrupted the TV and film industry.
The HFPA is enabling films that had an intended theatrical release date of March 15 or later. They will enter the game then even if they elect to skip theaters. They might go right to VOD. Usually, a film had to be played in theatres for 7 days in LA.
Similar changes have been made by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This is all about allowing films that debut online to compete. They are accessible to the Academy Screening Room just within the 60 days of the release of the film. According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the original 7 day run in theatre is a must.
