Google Messages Needs Encryption

Google Messages Actually Needs “end-to-end” Encryption

Google Messages is close to having end-to-end encryption for RCS (Rich Communication Services). RCS helps SMS services to do what the rest of the texting services do, but this takes place without having an end to end encryption like Apple‘s iMessage. The extensive adoption is a handful of a mess. But major cellular carriers in the US, last year, have declared openly that they would be offering RCS in 2020.

Google first unveiled RCS chat as Android’s primary testing platform in 2018, and in November, announced it was actually rolling it out to users in the US.

According to 9to5 Google’s analysis, Google Messages version 6.2 has a few lines of code that helps in offering clues for future features of the apps. It includes 12 recent fresh strings referring to encryption.

How Will Users Be Able to Use The Feature?

There is not enough data or information. The available information lacks to determine if the sender and recipient of messages would be needing the app to use end-to end-encryption. The code updates indicate an atmosphere that might enable users to determine whether to give authorization to other distinct Android apps. The apps that have access to messages to discern encrypted messages as well.

Also, the sender and the receiver will be needing a decent internet connection for end-to-end encrypted RCS texts. Even if the user is having a poor connection to the internet, Google will be sending the messages via SMS or MMS as a fallback. The would-be asking for the consent of the user before sending the messaging by SMS/MMS.

Google messages will soon be available with increased security. When will Google be offering the end-to-end encryption feature? There is no official announcement regarding the same till now. But companies are working on it. It looks like this is likely to happen soon.
