The Green Lantern series at HBO Max just got its first lantern cast, keep reading to find out more.
After nearly half a decade of wait, the Emerald Knight are finally making their way to the DCEU. A live-action Green Lantern TV series is currently in the works for the HBO Max streaming service, with Greg Berlanti producing and Seth Grahame-Smith serving as the showrunner and co-writer with Guggenheim. John Stewart’s Green Lantern was also supposed to appear in Snyder’s version of the Justice League but could not make the cut because of creative differences between the director and Warner Bros. Therefore, the Green Lantern series on HBO Max will be the first live-action appearance of the Green Lanterns after the Green Lantern movie of 2011 (i.e. if you’re excluding Alan Scott’s appearance in DC’s Stargirl series).
The hopes and stakes set on the Green Lantern HBO Max series is very high since it will decide the future of the Green Lanterns. Another movie titled “Green Lantern Corps” is in development which would have direct connections with the HBO Max’s Green Lantern series. The Green Lantern series is taking a different approach than the stereotype Green Lantern projects which is a big gamble but worth the risks.
The series will reportedly not feature the popular Green Lantern characters like Hal Jordan and John Stewart but will cover the origin of other members of the Green Lantern Corps. These other members include Alan Scott, Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, and Simon Baz and now we have our very first casting of the series.
All About HBO Max’s Green Lantern And Guy Gardner
So far, there is not much that we know about the series. The official reports revealed that the series will consist of 10 episodes of 1 hour each and the official description of the show states: “Green Lantern reinvents the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. They’ll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.” Recently it was also announced that Finn Wittrock has been cast as the show’s lead, Guy Gardner.
Wittrock is popularly known for his performances in American Horror Story, American Crime Story, and Netflix’s Ratched. Guy Gardner was introduced as a replacement for Hal Jordan after he became deeply involved in the GL Corps’ affairs and Earth was left unguarded. Guy Gardner is an outspoken, headstrong, and arrogant person who is often involved in joking and messing around in serious situations and hence his reputation precedes him.
The next casting news is expected to be about Alan Scott, the first Green Lantern of Earth although Hal Jordan was the first human Lantern to make an appearance. By featuring the less popular members of the Green Lantern Corps, the series hopes to gather an audience for the characters, and therefore popular Lanterns like Hal and John will not have an appearance of the show. We may see them in cameos but that is just a wild guess. other alien Green Lanterns like Sinistro and Kilowog are also being speculated to appear on the show.
