Hollywood Designer Assists Elon Musk In SpaceX

Hollywood costume designer Jose Fernandez designs suits for the SpaceX astronauts. Yes, you heard it right. The spacesuits that were worn by astronauts during the Crew Dragon Demo-2 were designed by Hollywood costume designers. Jose Fernandez from Ironhead Studio is the same designer we are talking about.

Jose Fernandez has earlier designed headgears and suits for many films. Like Captain America: Civil War, Loki’s and Thor’s helmet, Batman’s cowl for Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Spider-Man‘s mask having lenses that can change for Spider-Man: Far from Home.

On Monday, March 30, 2020, SpaceX successfully obtained a fully integrated experiment of crucial crew aviation hardware. It was attained forward of Crew Dragon’s following presentation mission to the International Space Station for NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. The initial flight test with astronauts on board the spacecraft. NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley contributed to the experiment. It encompassed flight suit leak inspections, spacecraft sound verification, exhibit panel, and cargo bin inquiries.

Elon Musk Desired Desirable Space Suits

Fernandez said he was oblivious of how his impressions would be utilized. He thought of it when SpaceX CEO Elon Musk asked him to a design competition, “I didn’t know what SpaceX was, and I thought it was a film.”

The spacesuits are less heavy and more creative than preceding suits. They featured helmets that are persuaded to the body with an elastic neck. It gives the wearer a broad field of vision. Fernandez said Musk desired the suits to be desirable and active. “He (Musk) kept saying, ‘Anyone looks better in a tux, no matter what size or shape they are,’ and when people put this space suit on, he wants them to look better than they did without it, like a tux. You look heroic in it.”

Douglas Hurley, Spacecraft Commander, and Rober Behnken, Joint Operations Commander wore the spacesuits on May 30. They wore it on a flight to the International Space Station. It is the first launch of NASA of American Astronauts from the US since 2011
