We all know Batman and Harley Quinn are two distinctive characters. Can you think of some similarities between the caped crusader and the maiden of mischief? Keep reading I am sure you’ll agree with me.
Their obsessive relationship with The Joker
The Joker is probably the most iconic villain of the DC Universe. What is common between Batman and Harley Quinn? Mr. J! Batman would not be the same without the Joke and the Joker would not have the same while without Harley Quinn. But what kind of relationship do they have?
They both have a compulsive relationship with the Joker. The Clown Prince of Crimes is an archenemy enemy of Batman and an extremely dangerous psychopath. He is the perfect paradigm of everything Batman fights against. In many ways, the joker somehow reflects how much he is obsessed with his greatest enemy. The Joker always wants batman to be fully focused and dedicated to him. He is obsessed to see batman struggle not to kill him.
Harley Quinn and the Joker are loved as two archnemeses in Batman. They are the most loved villainous couple. Harley is obsessed with her puddin’. But her relationship with him is always adjudged to be an abusive and obsessive relationship, where her Mr. J often took advantage of her blind love and loyalty. He exploited her to an extent where he made her think that she couldn’t live without him. She somehow managed to get over her obsession after the joker kick her out as shown in ‘Birds of Prey’ to reinvent herself and leave behind the selfish joker’s abuse. But we are still unaware if she can get over her puddin’.
They are incredibly intellectual
Batman’s secret identity is Bruce Wayne, a wealthy American industrialist, although he has no superpowers, he is one of the smartest humans on earth with the greatest fighting skills. He is often regarded as the world’s greatest detective. His childhood trauma has driven him to push the boundaries of his ability and learn more elements of the insanely criminal mind. He is a polymath who has trained his mind to the absolute pinnacle of human capability.
Talking of abilities to adapt and learn through, Harley Quinn should be considered as one of those. Before becoming Harley Quinn, Dr. Harleen Quinzel earned a doctorate in psychology and can analyze people very easily to get inside their head. So, by any measure that is a testimony to her ability. But after meeting Mr. J, she was psychologically tortured by the joker and became the psychotic Harley Quinn who pops psychology at random.
Their traumatic childhood
Bruce Wayne’s childhood somehow is the reason he became batman. As a child, Bruce witnessed the murder of his parents, Dr. Thomas Wayne and Martha Wayne, which ultimately led him to become Batman and seek justice against criminals.
In ‘Birds of Prey’ Harley is seeing narrating how as a child she was not accepted by her parents. His father trades her with 6 packs of beer. He ditches her every time she came back home. She was disregarded by her family. Eventually, her father sent her to St. Bernadette’s, where she was punished by the sisters, smacking her on the rear with a paddleboard. She would later grow tired of this and take revenge on one of the sisters, hitting her in the head with the same paddleboard they used on her. She grew up to become a great student and she was rewarded a full scholarship toGotham City Universitywhere she majored in Psychiatry. In her growing years, she did had a lot of heartbreaks but then she decided to concentrate on her work and her work led her to meet her Mr. J.
Both Batman and Harley have had a childhood which somehow led them to be what they are now. Their intelligence and their physical skills are way different, but they excel in their ways. Harley is a tragic victim and embodiment of co-dependents and abuse, and batman wants good of her.
There can be more similarities between them other than ‘Gotham’ like how they don’t have any superpower all they have are their amazing fighting skills and intellect that make them the most loved character in the DC universe.
