Pirates of the Caribbean 6 looks set to work without Johnny Depp but the reality is Captain is the backbone of the franchise.
Pirates of the Caribbean franchise looks all set to work without Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow, but the reality, there’s no way that the series can get that old functioning without Johnny Depp. Since the journey began in 2003 Gore Verbinski’s The Curse of the Black Pearl, the Pirate of the Caribbean franchise has been moving around Depp’s anti-hero captain Johnny Depp.
After appearing in the last two installments of the series Depp has decided to step down from the upcoming Fantastic Beasts movies because of his ongoing legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard. The star is going to take a step back even from Pirates of the Caribbean 6 because of his issues. This will make things for the franchise to find its own identity without the Captian.
Because in the beginning, Johnny Depp’s character was filling the spotlight with style, tone, and story. It is pretty easy to guess that it’s hard for Johnny Deep to reprise his character and it’s really hard for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to find the face who can make the persona that Depp while all this journey.
Johnny Depp Set The Tone Of The Pirates of the Caribbean
When the Curse of The Pearl made its debut, the expectations from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise crossed every bar. Disney had fought with Depp’s decisions to play the Jack Sparrow character as a campy, over-the-top drunkard from early on, and the movie was preceded by the critically maligned The Haunted Mansion the same year, another star vehicle based on a popular Disneyland ride.
But ironically, it’s was the character that Disney doubted which made everyone it’s a fan and stand out of the cast filled with stars. As soon as Geoffrey Rush in the Curse of Black Pearl, it’s Johnny’s campiness that gave the movie that tone which elevated the franchise from becoming the copy of 1993’s comparable Disney adventure The Three Musketeers or The Mummy movies.
The second installment Dead Man’s chest received many critics for its lighter, cartoony, and humorous tone but both of these decisions have their roots in Depp’s character choices and freewheeling, off-the-cuff silliness.
It was clear that movies were not able to match the actor’s style, there we saw clear attempts of spotlighting Jack Sparrow. It was an issue that can out in the 5th movie Dead Men Tell No Tales, whose opening action sequences tried to put Jack Sparrow in the center of the movie, where the first film split its screen time between Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, and Jack Sparrow.
