Among the shows which continue to go on for more than 5 seasons and still continue to have a very special place in the audience’s heart; The Vampire Diaries is definitely one of them. The show is basically based on a place called Mystic Hearts where 2 Salvatore brothers – Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Weasley) who are basically Vampires have come to search for their eternal love “Katherine” whose doppelganger Elena (Nina Dobrev) is a human.
The plot as twisted as it sounds is an absolute mixture of drama, love, suspense, thrill, adventure, and of course entertainment. The show starts with the epic love story of Stefan and Elena (which is absolutely loved by the audience) followed by the turn of events which lets us experience the amazing chemistry between Damon and Elena. Though the brothers initially played the “good cop, bad cop” where Stefan is the good cop but as the show progresses it also shows an epitome of brotherhood between the two.
What Happened Between Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley?
Towards the end of it, the brothers were in fact fighting over who would die in the end. In a recent chat show where the two were promoting their new line of bourbon, they revealed that they fought over which of the two Salvatore brothers should die in the end. Paul laughed and said “I won though and you (pointing to Ian) were a little jealous.
Paul Weasley revealed, “We both wanted to die at the end of the show. We both wanted the brothers to go out with a bang”. However, as everyone now knows, Paul won that battle because at the end of season 9, Stefan ends up dying. Though Damon also gets to live out the rest of his days as humans with Elena.
Damon or Somerhalder continued and detailed how both the brothers manipulated a 17-year-old Elena and turned her into a vampire (basically a killer). He added “it felt more poetic to for these two brothers to go away and let the humans resettle in their town, But I lost the battle”.
So basically Stefan dies at the end of season 9 but if wondering what happened to Damon, it was mentioned in the spin-off series “Legacies” that Elena and Damon are living in Mystic Falls. So finally fans got to know the whereabouts of their favorite couple. The Vampire Diaries ended on a high note, but its prequel “The Originals” was started soon after and was also loved by people. It basically explains how the “Original Vampires” were formed and their equation with witches and werewolves. The famous “Klaus – Elijah” equation which was also seen in “The Vampire Diaries” is well portrayed in this one.
