A new superhero flick by Netflix, The Old Guard is set for the sequel. The director of The Old Guard (Netflix) said, she is up for the sequel. She has ‘more story to tell’, and she finds viewers keen for the next instalment.
The Old Guard is a murky superhero film about a union of undying mercenaries. The writer Greg Rucka has adapted the film from his own comics.
After the film was released on Netflix last week, there is already a talk in the town about its follow up film. Gina Prince-Bythewood said she’d be game.
During an interview with Polygon, she said, “Honestly, it’s up to the audience. We’ll see how the audience responds to the film.”
“Greg Rucka, who wrote the graphic novels and the screenplay, always envisioned the novels as a trilogy, and I know where the story goes, which is pretty great. So if the audience is up for them, there’s certainly more story to tell.”
She was asked if she wanted to direct the sequel, she said she would love to do this once again, as long as her schedule would permit.
The Director Loves The Story Penned By Rucka
She further said, “It really depends on where I am when it’s ready for a sequel. I love this story and love the cast I put together. So I don’t know, I love that I created this thing, and I don’t know how I’d feel about someone else’s hands on it.”
On the other hand, she has her “next film lined up, so it would probably be based on schedule more than a desire”. Surely she would love to do that.
The first installment of the film has proven itself as an instant hit. It currently tops Netflix’s UK top 10.
The official synopsis of the OTT platform states that it is “forever is harder than it looks. Led by a warrior named Andy (Charlize Theron), a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die has fought to protect the mortal world for centuries.”
“But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile (Kiki Layne), the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary.”
It is based on the graphic novel by Greg Rucka and is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. The film is a grounded, murky, dark, action-packed story that gives a message of life. It shows how living is harder than it looks.
