The impending sixth installment of the venerable slasher genre, according to Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega, won’t hold back on the gore.
Jenna Ortega, who plays the lead role in Scream 5, revealed what viewers may anticipate seeing in the latest episode of the slasher film series, and it’s brutal.
Ortega told fans that the upcoming sixth installment of the franchise will have plenty of violence to keep them interested in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, where she also voiced her excitement for the eagerly anticipated sequel. When asked about Scream 6, the actor hinted that it will be a “very gory” sequel that she couldn’t wait for audiences to see.
The History of Jenna Ortega’s Scream
In the 2022 film Scream, Ortega played Tara Carpenter, a high school student who was the first to be attacked by Ghostface. The movie confounded expectations by allowing her to survive and return in Scream 6 this year. “There was a lot of pressure coming in, especially because my role was initially doing a spin on Drew Barrymore’s part which is obviously legendary,” Ortega said about joining the cast of such an iconic franchise. “I think because I’ve sat with the project long enough, I’ve been able to accept it, but it’s still such an honor to work with Ghostface. It’s a dream.”
Sam Carpenter’s actress Melissa Barrera recently discussed the severe violence in the upcoming film, claiming that the previous film’s filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett toned down the gore. “With the last Scream, they were tip-toeing and trying to be very respectful of what the franchise had been up until that point and keeping their inner gory dreams at bay. But with this one, they were like, ‘We’re going all out.’ It’s potentially a hundred times gorier.”
However, fans should expect more from the next movie than just gore and brutal bloodshed. Ortega hinted that fans will see a more developed version of her character Tara in the slasher sequel because she had to interact with her fellow cast members more and the filming was much more intense than the production of the fifth movie, in contrast to her performance in Scream 5, which mainly consisted of her “crying and screaming on the floor.”
While Courtney Cox and Hayden Panettiere from Scream 4 are returning as Kirby Reed and Gale Weathers, respectively, there will be a major absence in the upcoming movie as Neve Campbell will not be playing Sidney Prescott. The reason Campbell claimed she was compelled to leave, according to her, was because the offer made to her “did not correlate to the value” she felt she gave to the company.
