Since the concept art and script of Colin Trevorrow’s stand on Star Wars: Episode IX leaked, fans were elated with his version. John Boyega is one of the numbers because the movie will be showing Finn in a prominent light.
While speaking to Yahoo! Entertainment, John Boyega had discussed how Colin Trevorrow’s Episode IX will be featuring Finn on the planet Coruscant. He said, “I think Colin Trevorrow was going to tell that story,” he said. “That image of Finn with the blue flag and you have the AT-ATs lined up with tribal marks, and the stormtroopers take off their helmets. That would have been sick! That would have been dope, man, hands down.”
In 2015, Trevorrow joined to direct and co-write Episode IX, then known as Duel of the Fates. But he disconnected ways with Lucasfilm in September 2017 over creative discrepancies. He was soon replaced by The Force Awakens’ J.J. Abrams, and Trevorrow’s systematic colleague Derek Connolly, who was the actual Episode IX co-writer, was taken by Chris Terrio for what evolved as The Rise of Skywalker.
Duel of the Fates would have varied from The Rise of Skywalker in many key areas: Kylo Ren was the major villain while Palpatine only had a cameo, Kylo Ren was the one who assassinated Rey’s parents (who were nobodies, much like he told her in The Last Jedi), Rose Tico directed a heist on a Star Destroyer and Force spirits of Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda supported Rey in her battle with Kylo Ren, who was ultimately “extinguished” without any sort of salvation arc.
John Boyega Vocal About His Character
John Boyega has been verbal about the handling of his character in the sequel trilogy, telling that Disney and Lucasfilm “know fuck-all” about formulating for characters of color.
