Justice League Zack Snyder Cut Ending: Knightmare Verse Explained

Were you also having a little trouble summing up all the information in Zack Snyder’s Justice League? Here’s a detailed explanation of the ending.

Zack Snyder’s version of the Justice League was released on March 18, 2021, exclusively on HBO Max and it was a “Masterpiece”. Fans have been waiting impatiently for the Snyder cut of Justice League ever since the theatrical cut was released in 2017. Quite frankly, the Snyder cut was not a disappointment unlike the altered version which had hit the theatres previously. The fans finally got to see the amazing cinematography that was put in the movie and the differences between the two versions of the movie were quite obvious.

The Whedon cut ended up upsetting fans on numerous fronts, ruining all its characters. The Batman was deprived of his badass trait, making him look helpless in various scenes, also ruining the dark demeanor of the character by taking away his seriousness and making him crack jokes. Aquaman was also portrayed as powerless and he ended up contributing very little to fight against Steppenwolf. Wonder Woman and The Flash did contribute to the movie but they were not used up to their full potential.

Superman received the full credit of beating Steppenwolf making the climax look like that of a solo movie rather than that of a team. Luckily, Snyder’s version corrected all of these flaws and delivered a magnificent work of art giving perfect satisfaction to the fans and forcing them to ask for more.

Justice League Ending Explained

The ending of the Snyder cut didn’t contained any mid- credit or post- credit scenes, instead, the last 30 minutes acted as an epilogue. The Knightmare Verse scene was the most confusing one considering how the heroes defeated the villain.

Knightmare Verse: The Post Apokolips World

The much anticipated Knightmare verse returned after a brief appearance in “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice”. The scene features a ruined world that fell victim to Darkseid and his conquest. The world was completely overrun by the forces of Apokolips and surprisingly Superman was one of them. It is clear that Batman endured through all the mishappening and assembled a team in hopes of saving the world. The team consisted of himself along with The Flash, Cyborg, Mera, Deathstroke, and the Joker. Even though the Dark Knight and The Joker are on the same team, the quarrel between them remains unresolved.

When Batman tries to reason with Mera, she remains headstrong and questions him what does he know about losing someone he loved, Joker interrupts them and taunts Batman about the people he lost which included his parents and his adopted son. This was a direct reference to the death of Robin which was confirmed in BvS by Robin’s suit in the Batcave with a taunt written on it- “Haha, Joke’s on you, Batman”.

The dead Robin was confirmed to be Dick Grayson instead of Jason Todd by the director himself. All of this gives us insights about all of the dead people in the Knightmare verse which includes Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Dick Grayson along Lois Lane, and Harley Quinn. Wonder Woman and Aquaman’s death were teased in the Vision Cyborg had the moment he activated the mother box to resurrect Superman. His Visions also teased the death of Lois Lane when Superman was holding a burned and melted corpse in his arms when Darkseid approaches him.

This scene took place in the Batcave hinting that Joker intentionally killed Lois in Batman’s lair in order to turn Superman against him. Batman confirms Harley’s death while replying to the Joker who in-turn continues his taunts stating “You need me to help you undo this world you created by letting her die, Poor Lois. How she suffered so! I often wonder, how many alternate timelines do you destroy the world because, frankly, you don’t have the cojones to die yourself?”

All of this can be lead us to believe that somehow joker is the key which might help save the world, maybe he remembers the events in alternate timelines and is guiding Batman and co. to avoid previous mistakes.

This also suggests that the group has made numerous attempts to change the past by sending the Flashback in time to warn younger Bruce about protecting Lois. This can be aided by the Flash’s appearance in BvS during the Batcave scene where he says “It’s Lois. Lois Lane. She’s the key. Am I too soon? I’m too soon”. All of this can be seen leading up to the Injustice storyline, hinting at what we should expect to see next in the DCEU.

The DCEU is slowly getting the rightful place in the industry and the fans are getting the hero stories they deserve. The KnightmareVersr scene had teased a great deal in the DCEU and the fans are greatly excited to see how things turn out.
