Kat Graham shared her experience on The Vampire Diaries
The talented actress Graham said she always felt like she had someone to talk to about any issues on the show. Check out what she said to ET’s Katie Krause “I will say that I was fortunate in a lot of ways because if I ever felt anything—at the time Mark Pedowitz, who is still the president of The CW, who’s also Jewish, he was a really great ear for me”
Further she added, “I’ve had a lot of support in terms of awareness in terms of support of writers, producers, directors and I’ve been able to communicate any sort of racism or marginalization or tokenism. I might have experience whether on that show or on other projects that I’ve dealt with”
She continued, “It’s not a new experience but I did have to educate myself and figure out what can I do to help elevate this for other women who might come after me”
Kat Graham as Bonnie Bennett
Kat Graham starred as Bonnie Bennett, a witch who gets pulled into the supernatural world due to her best friend, Elena Gilbert. Talking about her role as Bonnie, she told POPSUGAR that “The role of Bonnie was so, so special because it really shaped my career in a lot of ways. I owe so much of my fan base internationally to the awareness of that show. It was also a show where I was the only African-American regular, and it brought to my attention certain things that I wanted to make sure I was thoughtful of when I move forward in my career.
I learned so much moving forward. I mean not every character has to be a badass and has to start off strong in any way. I think we as women, we have things that happen to us that make us strong. We have things that happen to us that change the way we see ourselves and that’s OK, too. The journey doesn’t have to be, I have the answers all the time. The journey is, I trust myself enough to go through what I need to go through to find it”
