Keanu Reeves is playing Neo in The Matrix franchise and he didn’t know it was a trans allegory.
Lana Wachowski and Lilly have directed and written The Matrix respectively. It is a sci-fi film that talks about technology and its power to control society and mankind. It was for the first time released in 1999. It is a highly regarded movie and it has all the qualities to be so. The most famous and legendary slow-motion bullet scene and the concept of a computer ruled reality has made it a classic movie in the industry. Since then the franchise has been expanding. With The Reloaded, The Revolutions. And the fourth edition-The Matrix 4 which is scheduled to release in April 2022.
What theory did Fans make out from The Matrix?
Its seen that the real meanings of the movies are often left to be interpreted by the audience. So, looks like The Matrix has quite many fan theories to its name. The most famous theory being that The Matrix is a parable for trans identity. Also, Lana and Lilly Wachowski confirmed this theory at the beginning of this month. They also said that they were happy as fans could see it and put it together.
Also, Reeves, The Matrix franchise’s long-term actor said during an interview that he didn’t know the film was a trans allegory. Although he was unaware of the fact that the movie, he was in was a trans allegory, he said it was very impactful. According to him, the concept was cool and it was amazing that such parable has been shared.

Since, after the film’s release Lana and Lilly Wachowski have come out in the open with them being transgender, it looks like they might have added their own experiences into the movie. It’s always been this way that fans have been concluding theories from the movies. But having the theory been accepted by the creators is a big thing. Reeves is all set to play Neo in the forthcoming The Matrix 4 after his appearance in Bill and Ted Face the Music as Ted.
It is also clear how close this parable is to both Lana and Lilly Wachowski. The social and political scenarios were very different in 1999 than it is now. Although the current society still holds the thought of inequality for transgenders but at least there more conversations being held regarding gender equality now than earlier. If the true meaning behind The Matrix was kept out in the open then it could have impacted its acceptance. And the film then wouldn’t get a chance for recreation.
