Keanu Reeves was eager to play Wolverine. He has admitted that Wolverine was the dream role he has had to play on screen.
One of the most popular characters of the X-Men’s Universe, Wolverine was played by Australian actor Hugh Jackman for 17 years. The role had given him International stardom.
Keanu Reeves has been very picky while playing a character on screen. He appeared in iconic franchises like Bill and Ted, The Matrix, Toy Story, and John Wick. But there is still one that got away, he really wanted to do this.
Keanu Reeves had appeared on SiriusXM with his Bill and Ted: Face the Music co-star Alex Winter. Host Andy Cohen had asked him if he had regretted missing out on some projects.
Reeves said, “I always wanted to play Wolverine.” Winter joked and continued, “It’s not too late. It’s not too late for Keanu Reeves to play Wolverine. I’m just going to leave that there.”
Chuckling, Reeves said, “It is too late. I’m good with it now.”
Jackman Was Also Sacked During X-Men
In fact, Jackman has also confessed earlier that he almost got sacked for playing Wolverine during the making of X-Men (2000)
He said, “I was told that things weren’t really working out as they hoped.” “I was about to get fired from my first Hollywood movie – the biggest of my career.”
“I was angry, I went home to my wife and I complained. I was whinging an Olympic level of whinging to Deb, my wife, and moaning about this person and that person.”
He continued, “She listened to me very patiently for about an hour and finally she just said, ‘Listen, I think you have just got to trust yourself. You are worrying way too much about what everything else is thinking. Just go back to the character, focus on that, trust your instinct… you’ve got this’.”
