Lance Reddick, star of The Wire and John Wick, dies at age 60

The Wire and John Wick actor Lance Reddick, who was slated to play Zeus in the next Percy Jackson series, dies at the age of 60.

According to TMZ, Reddick was discovered at his Studio City home at around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 17. Although the exact cause of death is now unknown, sources claim that natural causes are likely to be to blame.

In 1994, Reddick graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from Yale School of Drama, and because of his depiction of Baltimore P.D. Lieutenant Cedric Daniels in HBO’s The Wire, he rose to fame. The persona gained notoriety for his rigid policing methods, which ultimately led him to resign as commissioner and pursue a career as a defense lawyer. The five seasons of J.J. Abrams’ cult television series Fringe saw Reddick play another prominent character in Phillip Broyles, a Homeland Security agent, and garner him significant praise.

Reddick has most recently been promoting the impending fourth installment of the John Wick series, in which he played Charon, a concierge at the venerable Continental Hotel. In July 2021, when Reddick’s return to the franchise was revealed, director Chad Stahelski enthusiastically praised the choice. “Lance has been part of the franchise since the very beginning and has had an integral role in shaping the world of John Wick,” Stahelski said. “I couldn’t be more excited to be working with him again.”

Prior to his passing, Reddick had already portrayed Zeus in the first season of Disney’s planned Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. A video shared on Twitter showcasing the show’s underwater sets served as the formal announcement that Season 1’s filming had concluded. Reddick will be joined in the series by other Olympians who will be portrayed by actors including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Timothy Omundson, and Toby Stephens. Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri will serve as the show’s executive producers. Source: TMZ
