Another 500 Million data have leaked online and it’s not from Facebook.
You might have heard from the news that Facebook data has leaked online. Almost 533 million Facebook accounts have been made freely available online. However, do you know there’s another huge batch of people’s data leaking around the web including data from LinkedIn, the owner of Microsoft network confirmed. And the potential scope of the leak is huge: according to CyberNews, an individual selling the data on a hacker forum claims it was scraped from 500 million LinkedIn profiles.
CyberNews found that two million of the profiles for sale, its members’ full names, email addresses, phone numbers, genders, and more were visible. However, it says the data includes information from many places and wasn’t all scarped from the professional-focused social network.
The Statement
“We have investigated an alleged set of LinkedIn data that has been posted for sale and have determined that it is actually an aggregation of data from a number of websites and companies”. The company also contends that “no private member account data from the site was included”- which means the scraped data includes information you would be able to see on someone’s public page.
In fact it says that this was not a LinkedIn data breach which would be technically true if the data was scraped rather than collected by a hacker in LinkedIn’s systems, but doesn’t do much for users whose data is now being sold on the internet. Well, LinkedIn has yet to share how can you check whether your data is leaked or not.
