Loki’s director, Kate Herron, reveals the massive plot twist about TVA and reveals how the Marvel Studios series portended the reveal.
Loki’s fourth episode that released on June 30, follows Loki and Lady Loki awaiting their doom in Laminitis. However, TVA came to their rescue to capture the two variants. In this episode, Agent Mobius returns with his witty banter. The show of course ended at another cliff-hanger when three time-keepers ruined Loki and Sylvie’s plan and led to disastrous results.
The most interesting past was the post-credit scene where new MCU characters were also teased. While we don’t know what is going to happen next, Loki’s director Kate Herron reveals the subtle ways they portended the big twist about the TVA. Although Agent Mobius did mention, everyone working for it is also variants like the ones they regularly hunt down; but they’re either brainwashed to join them or pruned.
The Timekeepers:
In the beginning, the organization was introduced as an all-power entity created by the mysterious Timekeepers. But after Loki and Sylvie continued their mission to get rid of the three Time-Keepers they realized even they don’t exist. Instead, they found out it was Ravonna Renslayer scheming behind their backs all along.
According to Loki episode 4, the Timekeepers never made an appearance which made them more dubious. But as Herron said there are also other more subtle clues peppered throughout Loki that suggesting at the real nature of TVA. Loki always had doubts about TVA and its real purpose. There have been hints regarding their real nature, and it didn’t help that Agent Mobius couldn’t answer even the simplest of questions about the organization when pressed by the Asgardian Prince.
In conversation with Thrillist, the show director also revealed that they have also included several hints in the Marvel Studios series’ set design, low-key revealing that the TVA is not what it claims to be. She also mentioned that the way the people at the TVA dress, not to mention the countless one-sheets throughout their offices. She said –
“I wouldn’t want to spoil anything, but I would say that yeah, as she said, everything is not what it seems and even in our design, people have picked up on certain things. Like the way that they dress, or the posters and that there’s something a bit more going on there.”
It was a focal point in Loki when Sylvie told Loki that everyone working at the TVA is also variants. This shortly was revealed to Agent Mobius and Hunter B-15 who turned against the organization, leading to the ugly revelation about Ravonna’s true nature. In the last episode of Loki, a lot of details have been revealed about the TVA. It seemed like this caused a massive disturbance, it is not confirmed, that many people working for the fake Timekeepers are more likely still unaware of their real origins.
It’s only when each one finally learns the truth that the downfall of the TVA is almost guaranteed leaving it with no manpower. However, this may not be the end of their deceit. While Ravonna when arrested the young Sylvie, she was merely a hunter. She does appear to be the master manipulator who presumably, rose through the ranks to become a judge. Considering all this there is definitely a higher-ranking official who is sending her directives.
The conclusion of episode 4 does reveal that the omnipotent and lizard-like Time-Keepers are nothing but androids. Further episodes are going to be big surprises because episode 4 gave us some huge ones in its final minutes. As Ravonna killed Loki just before confessing his feelings to Sylvie, soon after Sylvie captured her. The post-credit was everything and Marvel got us all again. Of course, Loki isn’t dead. The scene showed Loki got introduced to a whole bunch of new Loki variants who seem to have already figured out how to cheat TVA crackdowns. Only two more episodes left before Loki completes its first season. The truth will soon be unveiled.
