Aimee Garcia spilled the beans about the 47 Ronin sequel. Here’s what you need to know!
Aimee Garcia popularly known for her role as Ella Lopez in Netflix’s Lucifer series has reportedly been selected to write the script for the upcoming sequel of 47 Ronin. “Ronin” is the name given to Samurai warriors whose masters were killed by enemies. The first part that came out in 2013 followed a similar plot where 47 Ronin fought against an evil emperor in order to avenge their fallen master and rescue his only daughter. It was written by Chris Morgan and Hossein Amini and starred Keanu Reaves alongside Hiroyuki Sanada. It was a major failure making only $151 million while the budget for the movie was $175 million. Hopefully, that’s not going to happen with the sequel.
The 47 Ronin Sequel Details
The sequel for the movie will be arriving on Netflix and is going to be directed by Ron Yua. It has been officially announced that the script would be written by Aimee Garcia alongside AJ Mendes. The former pro wrestler, AJ Mendes has already made her name as an author for her work in “Crazy Is My Superpower”. The Duo had previously teamed up for a comic book adaptation of Netflix’s GLOW series.
They are also the co-authors for Dungeons and Dragons along with a Wonder Woman story for DC comic coming this July. Garcia was pretty excited about the project which became clear from her interview with Deadline.
“AJ and I are excited to write a diverse and inclusive action film. Director Ron Yuan’s vision to blend martial arts, horror, cyber-punk, and action was inspiring and we’d like to thank the team at 1440 for being so supportive. As creators of color, we’re honored to be part of a modern, multicultural story with powerful female leads”
she said.
Though the first part of the movie was appreciated for its action scenes, it was an overall flop, therefore stirring up the story a bit is a good idea. Based on the true accounts of the 47 Ronin sequel, the first movie covered their tale, however, the sequel is expected to have very little to no connection to the previous movie.
The sequel would be set in a world of witches and giants while keeping the traditional touch of martial arts. There is going to be a time skip so it is very unlikely that we will get to see Keanu Reaves’ Kai in the movie. We will just have to wait to see about the kind of story Amiee and AJ come up with in order to keep the torch burning.
