Lucifer Season 5 Will Soon Take The Turn To 1940s

Lucifer is on the way to reach Netflix with season 5 in August. The Vertigo Comics’ adaptation will be taking back things for a special episode, to the 1940s.

The series on Netflix has released the stills from the upcoming episode i.e. “It Never Ends Well For The Chicken”. In this episode, the focus would be the back story. It will reveal the backstory of Lucifer and Maze’s past in 1940 in Los Angeles. In addition to this, black and white cinematography will be taking place. The rest of the cast will be seen playing different characters in the flashback episode. Ildy Modrovick told EW, “Everybody, in like two days, had to come up with a completely new character, and everyone is so funny”.

Co-showrunner Joe Henderson said, “whenever you play [with] flashbacks, the question is always, ‘What’s the time frame that can reflect a person?’ What’s nice about noir is it’s detective stories, but Lucifer isn’t a detective yet. So what we’re almost seeing, to a certain extent, is Lucifer’s first case.” He added, “there is a case, there is a mystery to solve, but it’s just more filtering our show’s language through noir.”

The decision to add another episode to Lucifer Season 5 with flashback was made after Netflix had decided to increase the number of episodes. The number of episodes has increased from 10 to 16. It has given more room to the creative team to explore more in Lucifer’s backstory. The setting seemed tailor-made for Tom Ellis’ sensibilities while his performance as Lord of Hell.

According to Ildy Modrovick, “Tom Ellis is made for this style. He kind of is Cary Grant. I think there’s always been something about his portrayal of Lucifer [that’s] old school, that harkens back to the extravagance and elegance of old Hollywood and just noir.” She further stated, “there was a moment in our arc where Lucifer needed to give us a little backstory on a character and tell us what happened to [him] a long time ago and we thought, the perfect moment for a Princess Bride moment. So, let’s open it up and have Lucifer tell this story to someone. And if we’re really doing a homage to Princess Bride, that person should be Trixie [Scarlett Estevez].”

The show is helmed by Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovick. Lucifer stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer i.e. the Lord of Hell, Lauran German, D.B Woodside, Rachael Harris, Kevin Alejandro, Lesley-Ann Brandt and Aimee Garcia.

The show will hit the online streaming platform, Netflix on August 21.
