Chris Hemsworth is now part of the cast for the forthcoming prequel film in the Mad Max franchise.
The actor will be starring alongside Anya Taylor-Joy and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the movie that will be delving into the life of the character of Charlize Theron from Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).
Director George Miller is said to be directing the film. Miller was considering utilizing cinema technology to de-age Theron so she could duplicate her role as war captain Furiosa. Though, he agreed against it and cast Taylor-Joy for the role.
However, it is unclear as to what character Hemsworth and Abdul-Mateen II will be playing.
According to Geeks WorldWide, the film is planned to be shot in Australia. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a delay in production.
Furiosa, An Addition To Mad Max Franchise
While Miller was developing Fury Road, he even created the origin stories for each character, be it Theron’s Furiosa that was a new addition to Mad Max Franchise. Her backstory was hardly cited during the 2015 film, Miller guessed, it would be adequate to analyze it in a new prequel film.
While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter back in July, he said, “It’s a tough one to swallow. Listen, I fully respect George, if not more so in the aftermath of making Fury Road with him.”
“He’s a master and I wish him nothing but the best. Yeah, it’s a little heartbreaking, for sure. I love that character [Furiosa] and I’m so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly.”
Miller brought out how CGI technology to de-age an actor did well in films like The Irishman. Though he does not want to rely on these techniques earlier.
Theron also acknowledged that, but was confused and said, “We get so hung up on the smaller details that we forget the thing that we emotionally tap into has nothing to do with that minute thing that we’re focusing on.”
Miller declared last year that he planned to make the 5th film in the Mad Max franchise.
