Marvel’s recent steps suggest that they have completely accepted the new Captain America.
Avengers: Endgame completely flipped the MCU upside down making a lot of major changes to a lot of major characters. During the climax of the movie, Steve Rogers decides to retire from being Captain America and lead a normal life with the woman he loved in the past. This was a bold move on Steve’s part but he wasn’t worried much as he had chosen one of his friends to fill in his shoes and take up the mantle of Captain America. The newly chosen Captain America was none other than Sam Wilson a.k.a. The Falcon, played by Anthony Mackie.
The Falcon & The Winter Soldier revolved around Sam’s story and his struggle with himself for completely accepting the shield and the Captain America mantle. During the fifth episode of the series, Sam finally accepts the responsibility and starts training to use that shield and during the finale episode of the series, he makes his debut as Captain America wearing a Red, Blue, and White Wakandan Suit. In order to support Mackie’s transition into Captain America, Marvel replaced Chris Evans’ Captain America with Anthony Mackie’s on the banners on the social media pages on Twitter and Facebook. So should we say that Chris Evans is not officially a part of Marvel?
Acknowledging The Big Change
Chris Evans played Captain America in the MCU for nearly a decade. The character and the actor practically carried each other to new levels of fame and its kind of hard to think of one without thinking about the other. Replacing Chris Evans with Anthony Mackie on the banners was certainly a bold move on Marvel’s part but was ultimately necessary in order to support and welcome a new Captain.
The banners which previously said “Just a kid from Brooklyn” and features Chris Evans’ Captain, now say “On your left” along with a cool picture of Anthony Mackie in his Captain America suit. Since this was a big change, the fans also gave mixed reaction on Marvel’s actions but at the end everyone accepted their decision and supported it.
The reaction from the fans made it clear that they too accepted Anthony Mackie as the new Cap while remembering Chris Evans as the root of the character. Marvel tried to take the support to another level and announced that “Captain America 4” is on the way.
Of course, this will complicate things in the future in case Chris ever returns as Cap but Marvel won’t have any trouble tackling the problem because they already have when the same thing happened in the comics. Although there is no way to confirm if this will happen or not but if the MCU brings together both Captain America, it is going to be legendary and a moment that would go down in history without a doubt. So, let’s just wait and see what the future holds for Captain America in MCU.
