Marvel is about to have a brand-new Falcon to replace Sam Wilson as he transcends into Captain America.
The Falcon & The Winter Soldier is turning out to be a turning point in the MCU, opening numerous directions for the storyline to move in. Two of the major characters are being replaced as the MCU heads into the future. A lot of members from the classic Avengers team are now gone, one of them is Captain America. During the climax of “Avengers: Endgame”, it was revealed that Steve decided to retire and live his life in the past with the love of his life Peggy Carter. However, his happy ending left behind a world without Captain America in it.
Steve fully understood the importance of a symbol like Cap and so he decided to pass on the mantle of Captain America to Sam Wilson [The Falcon] along with his shield. Unfortunately, instead of fulfilling Steve’s wish, Sam decided to surrender the shield to the government as he believed that the shield was Steve’s legacy.
While battling the new Captain America in episode 5 of The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, Sam’s suit was rendered useless after John rips his wings apart. Luckily for Sam, Bucky asked the Wakandans to make a new suit for him which should announce his ascension to the Captain America mantle. The final episode of the series is going to feature Sam wearing his new Captain America outfit while trying to stop the Flag Smashers. This would mark the arrival of a brand new Captain America in the MCU if John Walker is excluded for his unethical code of conduct. As for Falcon, Marvel very subtly set up a path for Joaquin Torres to replace Sam as The Falcon.
Joaquin Torres: The New Falcon
Joaquin Torres, played by Danny Ramirez, made his debut in the MCU in episode 1 of The Falcon & The Winter Soldier and has been instrumental in helping Sam in the fight against the Flag Smashers. Since the beginning, he showed great interest in Falcon’s tech. After Falcon’s suit is wrecked by John Walker, he gathered the broken pieces of his suit and told Torres that he can keep them. We have already seen that Torres is quite good with tech, so he should be able to repair the damaged suit for himself and set out on the journey of a superhero.
In the comics too, Torres goes on to become the Falcon after Sam becomes Captain America. However, in the comics, Torres was experimented upon which resulted in him growing actual bird-like wings due to mutation instead of wearing a pair of mech wings. We are definitely going to see Torres become the Falcon, however, when would this happen is still a mystery. But it’s great to see new heroes slowly making their place in phase 4 of the MCU, opening up whole new directions for the MCU to head in.
