MCU, an Obstacle for Hollywood Comedies, says Seth Rogen

Seth Rogen, the Canadian actor, and writer says that the success of MCU has made it difficult for the comedy genre to be a success at the box office. Rogen is currently busy promoting his new comedy picture, An American Pickle on the streaming app. During the promotions of his very own film, An American Pickle, he explained why only a few films in the comedy genre are making it big these days.

In a recent interview, Seth revealed that since many movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have occupied their positions in the comedy genre. This has made the opportunity for the less expensive films in the genre a bit restricted.

Seth Rogen in an interview:

“Something that me and [producing partner] Evan [Goldberg] talk about a lot is how Marvel movies are comedies,” Rogen said. “Thor: Ragnarok is a comedy. Ant-Man is a comedy at its core. So that’s what’s out there. There are $200 million comedies out there, and so that’s something, as a comedic filmmaker, to be aware of. That is the benchmark that people expect!”

The Canadian actor and writer, Seth Rogen continued, “If you’re going to make a big huge comedy, just know that your competition is like MCU. Not to say you should not make those types of films, but know that’s what audiences are seeing, and that, when you see those movies in theatres, they are playing like comedies. They are legitimately funny and star comedy stars.

“That’s something we talk about a lot – just to be aware of as filmmakers. These huge budget films function like comedies. Audiences still love comedy, and they want that – Deadpool – but the scope of them is huge. So, when you’re not offering them that scope, you must think, ‘What am I offering them?’ That’s why something like Good Boys do well because we’re not offering scope.

What we’re offering are pure comedy and emotion and relatability and nostalgia. That’s the trade-off. You don’t get to see the God of Thunder being hilarious, but you get to see something that maybe represents your actual life, and that’s very gratifying in another way.”

Roger is totally involved in the comic book genre and is in no way compromising it for anything. He is as into the genre as any other busiest and wealthiest producers in Hollywood.

The adaptation of DC Comic’s Preacher was created by Roger’s production company. He is currently working as executive producer on The Boys (A Superhero sendup of Amazon Prime Video).
