Money Heist is one of the most popular shows on Netflix, currently holding the record of the most-watched non-English show on Netflix. The fourth season of the series which released last year April smashed all records and garnered an outstanding viewership of 65 million.
Although it took a long time Netflix finally announced the renewal of Money Heist for a fifth season in August 2020. However, to some fan’s disappointment, Netflix mentioned in their caption “The Heist comes to an end”, which means this will be the last season of the popular Spanish series.
What to expect from Money Heist Season 5 (warning: spoilers)
By the end of season 4, we saw the heist still ongoing and Lisbon finally joining the rest of the crew in the Bank of Spain. At the very end scene, Professor is seen with a gun to his head, held by Alicia. The fans have come up with a bunch of theories on Alicia, one group believes her pregnancy to be fake while the other claims she might be related to Berlin’s ex-wife or is Berlin’s ex-wife herself (who had a brief appearance in season 3 and 4). In Money Heist Season 5 we will most likely witness the gang planning their escape as the crew continues to melt gold in the basement. One big question that arises out of all this is if they somehow manage to escape, will they be able to keep their freedom like last time? This seems far-fetched as, unlike last time, their identities are out in the open now.
Like the last 2 seasons, Berlin will be making a return in Money Heist Season 5 as well. Vancouver Media has teased his return and the actor himself has made various posts related to the Spanish thriller. Since the last two seasons saw Berlin only in the flashback scenes, we speculate this might also be the case for Season 5. One of the most heart-wrenching moments of Season 4, was Nairobi’s Demise. We are happy to inform you that she might make an appearance in Money Heist Season 5 as she is listed to appear in Season 5 Episode 1. However, to the fans’ disappointment, we believe that this will be a flashback scene and her appearance will be brief.
Alex Pina in an interview with EW has claimed that Money Heist Season 5 will be an all-out war
“the gang will now be pushed into irreversible situations, into a wild war. It is the most epic part of all the parts we’ve shot.” Pina also said: “We have spent almost a year thinking about how to destroy the band. How to put the Professor on the ropes. How to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters. The result is the fifth season of La Casa de Papel. The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season”.
Cast and crew: Which new faces are joining?
Apart from the main cast members who will be returning to Money Heist season 5, few new faces have also been announced― Miguel ÁngelSilvestre, Sense8 alum will be a new addition. Miguel might play the villain in Money Heist Season 5.
While speaking about Miguel’s character and villains in general, Pina said, “We always try to bring in charismatic, intelligent, and brilliant opponents. In this case, from a genre of pure war, we also look for characters in which the intelligence can be like that of the Professor”
Another new addition to the cast for Season 5 will be Patrick Criado, well known for his role in The Aspirant, The King, and Plastic Sea. Apart from them, Formula TV reported that José Manuel Seda will also be joining the crew. He is best known for his work on Yo soy Bea and directing 2006 short, Transito. Beyond the main characters and the newfaces, Olalla Hernández as Amanda,Fernando Cayo as Coronel, Tamayo Luka Peros as Marsella, Belen Cuesta as Manila will also return.
Money Heist Cast dropping hints on social media
In July 2020, Alex Pina posted a picture in their back garden office. Pina caption the picture, “Writing La Casa de Papel season 5.” In late July 2020, Vancouver Media posted a picture on Instagram that the preparation for the production of the show had begun. In August 2020, Ursula Corbero posted on Instagram a picture of her first day back on the set of Money Heist. Professor also posted a picture that showed his costume, which carried a ridiculous amount of blood on it (we might see the iconic character meeting his end in the finale season).
Itziar Ituño posted a picture on September 2020 with the caption “Lisbon is back”. Najwa Nimri posted videos and pictures from the set on December 2020 which claims that the shooting was ongoing back then. So far, the final season of the series has been filmed in Copenhagen, Denmark, Portugal, and Spain.
When will Money Heist Season 5 release?
Rumours, went around for a while that the filming for the show concluded in January 2021, which means the finale season might come out in mid-2021. Netflix confirmed in the Q2 2021 earnings report, Money Heist Season 5 will hit Netflix in the second half of 2021. We are putting our money on a September or October 2021 release.
