The Netflix drama Ratched has dropped the first trailer. Ratched on Netflix stars Sarah Paulson from American Story fame. The series is the prequel to the 1975 One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. The Netflix drama will be available on Netflix from 18 September. The series will be having 8 episodes and the second season along with it is already confirmed.
The synopsis states, “From Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, Ratched is a suspenseful drama series that tells the origin story of asylum nurse Mildred Ratched.”
“In 1947, Mildred arrived in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind.”
“On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it, Mildred’s stylish exterior belies growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born.”
Paulson Speaks To Vanity Fair
Paulson said while speaking to Vanity Fair, “I identified very deeply with her loneliness. I think ultimately at the end of the day, that is sort of what drives Mildred.”
“A pursuit of survival and of finding some sense of home. Even though the methods that she chooses to achieve that internal security are somewhat questionable, I would argue that she’s doing them with a potentially selfish need, but survival needs nevertheless.”
“Sort of an animal need that blinds her to the inappropriateness of some of her actions.”
Paulson hinted at what can be expected from Mildred. It won’t be a far cry from the characters that she has portrayed in American Horror Story.
“A lot of us are on the planet trying to figure out how to survive our childhoods, our environments, our circumstances. And to have an opportunity to do a deeper dive into this invented character that has become so pulsating with life for so many people, to figure out why she is so cold…so removed…,” she said.
She added, “By the time you get to the end of the first season, you will not wonder how and why Mildred became the way she did. You may question her actions, you may have a judgment about it, but you will understand it. It will make sense to you.”
It will be fun to even wait for the series to drop on Netflix.
