Netflix Dash & Lily Season 2

Netflix’s Dash & Lily Season 2 On The Cards?

Is there any possibility that Netflix’s latest romantic drama Dash & Lily season 2 will make a return?

Season one of Dash & Lily was the perfect escapist romance that infused our hearts with the much-needed Christmas spirit. Based on David Rosenthal and Rachael Cohn’s best selling young adult novel “Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares”, this heart-warming tale of two strangers falling for each other by exchanging notes on a red notebook that was hidden across various locations in New York,  was loved by viewers and critics alike. A large part of the success of this show can be attributed to the smart writing that is aware of the tropes associated with the genre and embraces them wholeheartedly while sometimes also skillfully departing away from them. Midori Francis’s charismatic portrayal of Lily played the right foil to Austin Abram’s astute take on the reluctant lover. Over the course of 8 episodes, Dash learned to embrace patience while Lily took active steps to venture out of her comfort zone and we, the viewers grew more emotionally invested with their story.

What We Know About Dash & Lily Season 2

Now that we know that the first season ends with Dash and Lily kissing on New Year’s eve, what’s next for the couple? Netflix still hasn’t commissioned a second season yet. But, with the love the show’s received, it’s a no-brainer that we’re getting a second season. Showrunner Joe Tracz while talking to a popular media outlet even said ‘’I love these characters so much and the city that they live in. Knowing that there is more story to be told, those are stories I’d like to tell”. We would love to see that happen too!

With David and Rachel having released two books in continuation to the Dash and Lily’s story, there’s already a storyline in place waiting to be made into another season. The second book in the series “The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily” picks up a year later where Dash and Lily are in a romantic relationship. But tragedy befalls as Lily’s grandfather suffers a fatal heart attack and she’s left questioning her entire outlook towards life. Dash, along with Lily’s brother Langston is determined to bring her out of her disturbed state of mind just in time for Christmas, a time of year that she’s traditionally loved. This seems like a really interesting premise because it was Dash who wasn’t so keen about Christmas the last time around. Now, the onus is on him to change Lily’s mind the same way she changed his about Christmas actually being a magical time.

One more  thing that I really enjoyed about the first season was the depiction of New York as a wondrous place where fantasies and dreams do actually have a chance of turning into reality. Landmarks like the Strand Bookstore and Grand Central Station were woven into the narrative. With the second novel also being set in Manhattan, I’m sure we’ll see more of the city in all its glory yet again.

As far as release dates are concerned, there isn’t anything locked in yet. But, the whole cast is likely to be back. Since shootings were canceled and the entire film industry came to a standstill owing to the pandemic, it might be a while before we get to see Dash and Lily back in action. With restrictions in place, it might also be hard to shoot in outdoor locations with a lot of footfall. Will that mean that the script is going to rework in order to adhere to guidelines if shooting is to resume now? How much of an impact is that going to have on the final cut? Well, only time can give us the answer to these questions. All we can do is hope that things start stabilizing and Netflix does commission a sequel and who knows even a threequel!
