Netflix's The Irregulars

Why Netflix’s The Irregulars Got Cancelled After One Season?

Despite getting favourable reviews from critics and topping a Nielsen chart, The Irregulars is not returning for a second season on Netflix. Let’s find out the reason!

Netflix has recently cancelled The Irregulars, just after the crime drama finished its eight-episode first season, which came out on March 26 of this year. The Irregulars is set in Victorian-era London and focuses on a group of teenagers working as investigators for Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. The series is loosely inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Baker Street Irregulars, who often appeared in the author’s classic Sherlock Holmes stories.

The Irregular Season 2

Although there had been earlier reports that The Irregulars would be renewed for a second season, according to Deadline Netflix has decided to end the series after season 1. What is shocking is that this decision followed after The Irregulars beat The Falcon and The Winter Soldier in the top Nielsen’s weekly U.S. streaming chart. The Irregulars is created by Tom Bidwell and starred Thaddea Graham as Bea, the group’s strong-headed leader.

The team also included Spike (McKell David), Billy (JojoMacari), Leopold (Harrison Osterfield), and Bea’s younger sister, Jessie (Darci Shaw). Additionally, Royce Pierreson played Dr. Watson and Henry Lloyd-Hughes played Sherlock Holmes.

The Irregular Netflix

This has come as a shock to the fans as The Irregulars scored a solid 78% average from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a number to be proud of. This show also surpassed The Falcon and the Winter Soldier by gathering 643 million minutes of viewing as opposed to 628 million minutes garnered by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

However, the reason for this can be because The Irregulars had aired five more episodes as compared to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier at the time of the chart’s release. Although the real reason behind Netflix cancelling the show, despite it doing so well, is not known it is regardless to say The Irregulars might be joining Disjointed and Girlbossamong the list of Netflix original shows that got cancelled after just one season.
