Netflix’s World’s Most Wanted crime series has helped capture one of the fugitives shown in the series.
Felicien Kabuga: A fugitive from Netflix’s World’s Most Wanted (Netflix Series)
Felicien Kabuga, a businessman from Rwanda, is believed to be involved in the genocide that happened in his homeland. His (The Fugitive) story is also featured in the World’s Most Wanted crime series on Netflix.
Kabuga, the suspected criminal involved in the genocide was caught on 16 May during a raid in Asnieres-Sur-Seine in Paris, France. He has charged with some heinous crimes and genocide against humanity that left everybody in dead-fear. He has now been due to face trials against his crimes next year.
Since his accusation for Rwanda in 1997 by the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal that accounts for a total of 23 of his escapism, Kabuga has used a minimum of 28 aliases.
The 85-year-old Kabuga’s heinous crime’s story is featured in the second episode of the show. He is a Hutu Extremists’ primary investor who killed around 800,000 people in 1994.
Kabuga Founded and Funded RTLM
He provided finance to the militias who then carried out the killing of lakhs of people. He imported thousands of machetes inside the country. A broadcaster, Radio Television Libre des Mille Collines (RTLM) was also founded and funded by him. This broadcaster used to encourage people to slaughter the people belonging to the Tutsi ethnic group.
He was the wealthiest man in the country but his heinous crimes were so massive that he had a $5m (£4.1m) reward attached to his name.
International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT)’s Chief Prosecutor at The Hague, Serge Brammertz in a statement
“The arrest of Félicien Kabuga today is a reminder that those responsible for genocide can be brought to account, even twenty-six years after their crimes.”
“For international justice, Kabuga’s arrest demonstrates that we can succeed when we have the international community’s support. This result is a tribute to the unwavering commitment of the United Nations Security Council, which established the Mechanism to continue the accountability process in Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia.”
Kabuga’s arrest happened immidiately with the support of International law enforcement and judicial cooperation.
