PlayStation 5 DualSense Controller To Change The Control Buttons

Sony has announced that they are changing the cancel and action buttons on PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers in Japan. This would be done by Sony to match the rest of its global market.

Sony has now confirmed that PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers in Japan will be distinct from the former generations as they are planning to change the action and the cancel button. It would be done to match the rest of the global models.

Though, PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers and other generation controllers have traditionally used the circle button as the action button since its 1994 original console in Japan. They, now, no longer want to support the making of the controller that would be specific to only one region. Sony spokesperson recently said, “The decision was made to avoid different button settings across countries, as well as easing the burden for developers,” as reported by Kotaku.

PlayStation 5 DualSense Controller To Get Differences In Japan

Japan’s PlayStation controllers uniquely used the circle button as the action button, unlike the rest of the globe that uses the X button as the action button. The reason for this button change initially was due to a cultural difference to what the circle symbol represents.

In Japan, the circle symbol or “maru means ok or correct” whereas the X symbol or “bBotanbotan” translates to “no” or “not available,” leading Japan gamers to see the X button as one that means cancel and the circle as one which means accept, as explained by Kotaku.

After the statement, early response from Japanese gamers was eclectic, with some gamers being pleased to have some transparency when they play non-Japanese games and others being surprised by having to reframe how they’ve always teased games on the PlayStation console.

PlayStation 5 will be on sale from Nov. 12. The Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive edition will retail for $499 USD, while the Digital Edition without a disc drive will be available for $399.
