According to recent reports, the forthcoming sequel to ‘The Batman’ may feature the iconic villain Clayface in a prominent role. Deadline, citing anonymous sources close to the production, states that the character is a “significant addition” to the latest draft of the script, co-written by director Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin. However, neither DC Studios nor Warner Bros. Pictures have confirmed Clayface’s involvement in ‘The Batman – Part II,’ so readers should take this information with caution.
The speculation surrounding Clayface’s appearance in the sequel aligns with rumors of a potential standalone film featuring the legendary Bat-villain. Reports suggest that ‘Midnight Mass’ creator Mike Flanagan and his producing partner Trevor Macy recently met with DC Studios co-chairs and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran to discuss a possible Clayface movie. The proposed film may portray the character in a more heroic light compared to his DC Comics counterpart, although Gunn and Safran have yet to decide on the project’s future.
Mike Flanagan, known for directing ‘Doctor Sleep,’ has previously expressed his interest in working on a Clayface solo film during an episode of the ‘Script Apart’ podcast. Flanagan shared his enthusiasm for the character and his desire to explore other horror-inspired DC projects, such as Scarecrow, Justice League Dark, and Constantine. The director also mentioned his childhood fascination with Superman, although it seems unlikely he discussed a Superman film with Gunn and Safran, considering Gunn is already set to write and direct ‘Superman: Legacy.’
