Spiderman Once Played A Football Game With Neighboring Kids

Some small actions have bigger consequences. If Spider would not have bitten Peter Parker, he would never have become Spiderman. If Spider-man would have stopped earlier in his career, then he would have never learned the great power that comes with great responsibility.

Also, Spider-man once saved the universe unknowingly by playing a football game with kids from the neighborhood. It seems impossible but this has actually happened in Web of Spiderman #34

The story starts as an alien chief whose name is A’sai, uses a device (stolen) from Galactus’ ship. This allows him to sneak into the Watcher’s moon base. But Uatu warns him because these devices have safeguards. These safeguards prevent it from any misuse. A’sai suggests that would make a wager with the Watcher’s freedom. The Watcher agrees and gives him access to his monitors.

At that moment, on Earth, Spider-Man watches a group of community kids playing football. When one of the children nicknamed “Gerbil” gets injured, Spiderman proposes to sub for his team. Kids are now excited to have a superhero playing with them. They ask him to use his enhanced agility and spiderman powers. Also, they force him to tie his one hand behind his back. And Spiderman agrees. A’sai catches sight of the fame and he then uses it as the basis of his bet. Uatu is backing Spiderman’s team and A’sai is backing Truck’s team. Truck is another child who is at the winning advantage.

Unable to admit the defeat, Spiderman manages to get his team a touchdown by the end. He uses this moment and encourages kids to conquer their fears. The underdogs started employing better strategies and brought the game to a score of 56 to 45. This time, A’sai is quite worried as he may lose the bet, he uses Watcher’s technology to give extra power yo Truck. This causes Truck to break another boy’s leg.

Spiderman Inspired The Children

Gerbil rejoins the game, inspired by Spiderman. And he knocks Truck to make the winning touchdown. A’sai wails about his loss. But before he can use the weapon against Watcher, Uatu teleports the weapon into the heart of the star.

He also informs A’sai that he realizes the thief chanced to “welch on our bet.” The Watcher punishes A’sai by twirling him into a Joker playing card and transferring him to a casino on Earth. Lighthearted “The Cosmic Gambit” indicates how epic cosmic stories are at their best when rooted by relatable, down-to-earth events.
