The popular singer and actor is all set to play a damaged influencer in Picture start’s Spiral, who goes through a life-changing addiction to social media.
Selena Gomez is an American pop star and actor who earned a name for herself at a very young age from her stint as Alex Russo on Disney Channel’s Wizards Of Waverly Place. She has acted in movies such as Monte Carlo (2011), Spring Breakers (2012), and Ramona and Beezus (2010). She also worked as a voice actor in the Hotel Transylvania franchise where she lent her voice to Dracula’s daughter Mavis. She was also an exec producer on the Broken Hearts Gallery (2020).
The plotline
Directed by Petra Collins, Spiral is going to be produced by Drake and fellow Canadian Musician, Future The Prince (who is also a producer on HBO’s Euphoria). Written by Phoebe Fisher, Spiral will focus on the life of a social media influencer who finds her body decaying as a result of her crippling addiction to social media. Deadline has reported that the movie is yet to find a streaming platform.
What will it do for Gomez’s career?
Although Gomez started her acting career as a child star and is better known for her music, this movie is likely to change that and give her acting career a different spin as her role in Spiral is likely to explore her more dramatic side and showcase her stellar acting ability. Selena Gomez also recently finished filming for Hulu’s Only Murders In The Building, where we shall see her alongside comedy legends, Martin Short and Steve Martin, which proves how able she is even in this part of her career.
