Star Wars has forever been a master in introducing new concepts every time over the years, this time it is midi-chlorians. These amazing and fascinating concepts have been adored by some fans while smeared by others. The idea of Force introduced by Star Wars was the most recognized one. An unbelievable force of energy stretched out to the Universe. It allowed the Sith or the Jedi to feel and use their powers and conduct unbelievable achievements.
However, Force created some of the most hated additions to the franchise. One of those was midi-chlorians, introduced in The Phantom Menace. The most criticized additions are the midi-chlorians, out of all the additions made by the Star Wars.

Moreover, Luke Skywalker has also been against the concept of midi-chlorians. Also, in the book Star Wars: The Secrets of the Jedi (2019), the Jedi Master didn’t have anything inspiring to say regarding the concept of midi-chlorians.

Luke explained, “During the time of the Galactic Republic, the Jedi used science to explain why some of us feel the Force more strongly than others. Prospective younglings were tested by the Jedi Order for midi-chlorians — microscopic life-forms that reside in all living cells and impart the will of the Force to their hosts. Those with a high number of midi-chlorians were able to hear the will of the Force more clearly than others. Personally, I’ve never been one to worry about how exactly the Force whispers to me. All that matters to me is that it still does.”
It’s somewhere acceptable as to why so many hate the idea of midi-chlorians. Although the way it’s portrayed is unique. But it somehow damages the idea of Force. It damages the idea of mysticism attached to the Force which further helps people to connect with it. Despite being so, spiritual people tend to lose the connection to the Force.

Moreover, many fans have misunderstood the whole original explanation of midi-chlorians. They thought Force to be some kind of a product of space bacteria. Though this confusion was soon erased from the minds of fans in The Mortis Arc of Star Wars: The Clone Wars helped. A detailed explanation of The Force and midi-chlorians was provided. The Force was beautifully and clearly shown as a mystical energy field. Whereas, midi-chlorians are the link between the cosmic and the living force.
Simply saying, the very idea of midi-chlorians wasn’t a well-researched one. Given the hatred it received. However, the concept of midi-chlorians will always be one of the most disputed additions to the Star Wars.
