Netflix’s biggest project is on its way. Yes, you heard it right! Stranger Things and Stephen King are coming together. Find out the details here!
After decades of effort, Steven Spielberg is finally bringing a Stephen King novel to the small screen and he has got the perfect team to make it a success. Spielberg collaborated with Netflix’s Stranger Things producers and creators Matt and Ross Duffer, along with the show’s writers for an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Talisman.
The Talisman is a 1984 fantasy novel by Stephen King and Peter Straub which follows the story of a 12-year-old boy, Jack Sawyer who sets out on a journey to find a crystal called the Talisman, in order to save the life of his dying mother who suffers with cancer. According to THR, The Duffer Brothers have already agreed to executively produce the adaptation for the Talisman, while Curtis Gwinn would be writing and serving as the showrunner for the series. Stephen King himself will also be an executive producer for the show. The deals are still in development and haven’t been finalized yet but the series will definitely arrive on Netflix.
Why Would The Adaptation Be A Success
The Talisman is a very successful novel and is one of the finest works of Stephen King. It got nominated for the Locus and World Fantasy Awards in 1985 and the only reason that you may find the name unfamiliar is that there haven’t been any adaptations for the big or small screens so far, but that’s about to change. Steven Spielberg has been after this adaptation for a very long time, he even acquired the rights for the same in 1982, that is even before the book got published.
After decades of effort and attempts to create a film, Spielberg finally realized that a TV show might be the best way to narrate the tale of The Talisman. The team that has been prepare to handle the series already excels in expressing the story similar to that of the Talisman.
The journey that Jack goes on takes him simultaneously through the American heartland and “the Territories,” a strange fantasy land which is set in a universe parallel to that of Jack’s the United States. This is similar to the “Upside Down” reality that is featured in the Stranger Things season 1.
Another similarity that the Talisman has with Stranger Things is that it revolves around the story of little 21-year-old kids. The journey that Jack Sawyer sets out on to save the life of his mom takes him through different adventures while he attempts to find the crystal which can save his mom, what he is unaware of is the very same crystal which he intends to use for saving his mom can also save the whole world.
Considering the massive growth that Netflix has achieved in the past year makes it the perfect platform to launch the long-planned adaptation. While the preparations are still in progress, the show would certainly be a success considering the talented team Stranger Things and Stephen King responsible for its handling, and what an excellent job they have done in making Stranger Things a smashing success.
