James Gunn recently confirmed that the post-production for The Suicide Squad is completely finished, even the VFX.
The sequel to “Suicide Squad”, “The Suicide Squad” is finally arriving this year. Director James Gunn recently used Twitter to announce that the movie has finished production, including VFX and is all set to be released in August. Directed by David Ayer, the original Suicide Squad movie that came out in 2016 did not received much appreciation from the fans or the critics despite being a commercial success making over $740 million worldwide. The reason being the poorly developed characters in the movie and the untidy plot. Due to these reasons, Warner Bros. decided to hire James Junn (director of the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy) to handle The Suicide Squad movie. The movie has no direct connection to the previous movie, other than a few returning characters, which has led to the notion of called The Suicide Squad a “soft reboot”. The Suicide Squad has a truckload of new and amazing characters joining the team adding to the magic of the movie. The returning cast includes Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. Along with them, many new faces are making their debut in the DCEU including John Cena’s Peacemaker, Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, Sylvester Stallone’s King Shark, and Peter Capaldi as The Thinker.
James Gunn’s Announcement
In a tweet on April 19, James Gunn mentioned the next issue of Den of Geek magazine that comes out on April 27. With The Suicide Squad as the cover story, the magazine will feature exclusive interviews with James Gunn, Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena and Joel Kinnaman. He also mentioned that the movie is completely finished including VFX. “Check us out in @DenofGeekUS‘s massive #TheSuicideSquad cover story out April 27. Exclusive interviews with me, @MargotRobbie, @idriselba, @JohnCena, & @joelkinnaman. By the way – we completely finished the movie this week, VFX and all. Can’t wait for you all to see it” he said in his tweet. Finishing a superhero movie this far ahead is an exceptional feat and it was only possible due to the fact that no pickup shots or reshoots were required as revealed by James Gunn. He also mentions that now that marketing and publicity are the only things left following the wrapped-up production. Also responding to a Peacemaker Christmas ornament tweet, Gunn stated “Nothing says Christmas like a guy who kills for the sake of peace.”
Task Force X or Suicide Squad as we call it, has a lot of potential and a director like James Gunn can truly use the chaotic craziness of these characters to its best to deliver a masterpiece which the world will witness in August 2021.
