Super Mario 64 Plus, which is a fan-made PC port of Super Mario 64 and possesses various distinct quality of life features such as 60 FPS and a Permadeath mode.
The customizing community has often taken the chance to polish this historic game and Super Mario 64 has been ported several times to PC before. The Fan-made PC port of Super Mario 64 is renamed Super Mario 64 plus. This fan-made version adds the ability to use a Permadeath mechanic or play in 60 FPS.
Super Mario 64 remains a timeless classic
Super Mario 64 remains iconic in the world of video games. It was a launch title for the system in 2006 and was remade for the Nintendo DS as Super Mario 64 DS. This remake featured multiple playable characters like Yoshi, Luigi, and Wario and even more stars to collect in the world as well. Along with this, it also featured extra mini-games that were there in New Super Mario Bros. for the DS. The original Super Mario 64 has been posted quite a number of times on Nintendo’s virtual console systems, most recently this was done with Super Mario 3D All-Stars, but unfortunately, that collection is no longer available for sale digitally and the physical copies are extremely expensive.
Features of Super Mario 64 plus
Made my Mors, Super Mario 64 plus is a modified version of Super Mario 64 PC port. This version has a bunch of new features like updated textures, the ability to remain at a level after collecting a star, and many other new settings. The two most exciting features, however, are being able to run in 60 FPS and the Permadeath mode where once Mario dies, the player has to start the game all over again, from scratch. Nevertheless, the Permadeath mode is optional and players can turn it on if they are in for an ultimate challenge.
The problem with these mods.
The main problem with this type of mod is Nintendo might file a DMCA claim towards it. Nintendo has an infamous history of taking down Super Mario 64 PC ports. A Twitter account named The Mario Fan Games Galaxy Twitter, claims that Nintendo only takes down remakes of already existing games and not fan made originals but since Super Mario 64 PC plus is a modified version of a Nintendo game that used to be for sale on the Switch, it can fall under Nintendo’s target if it catches the company’s attention.
Whether Nintendo takes it down in the future or not, the mod, for now, is available to download through MFGG.net. Super Mario 64 PC ports strive to provide a new and unique spin to this timeless game by granting all types of quality of life changes, new modes, new textures etcetera.
