The upcoming HBO Max’s The Batman TV spin-off series will be what fans always wanted Gotham to be in a prequel series.
The upcoming HBO Max’s The Batman spin-off series will be what many fans wanted Fox’s city to be. The latest cinematic take on DC’s Batman is on its way with Robert Pattinson stepping in the suit of Dark Knight. The film was under production but just like many other films Coronavirus pandemic pushed Matt Reeves’ film back from 2021 to 2022.
But this time the reboot is all set to cross every bar to make it better than previous Batman movies. Even before Pattinson’s Batman hit the screen, Matt Reeves is all set to drop Gotham P.D. related show.
What is Gotham Central?
The project currently referred to as Gotham Central is under production for HBO Max. In the DC cinematic history, this is the first time that DC film is branching off and dropping a spin-off series in the face of a TV show.
While Terence Winter was attached initially as the showrunner and executive producer, he recently left the show due to some creative differences with the team. However, the two Batman-related TV shows are still vastly different from one another, despite heavily focusing on the Gotham City Police Department.
While the Fox series spotted the light on Gordon as the lead character, it was partially a Batman origin story. The prequel show follows a world where there is no Dark Knight to protect the city and the corruption is at its peak.
However, the Batman spinoff series will take place in a realm where Bruce stepped in the suit of Batman just for one year, officially make its debut before the film sees its release in 2022.
The Central will be following PD as they are learning about the presence of Batman without Pattinson’s character making an entry on the screen. This is that angle that was never explored in the history of the DC cinematic universe and quite frankly what Gotham fans wanted it to be. Gotham season 1 was the only season where the GCPD had more focus than the super-villains.
In the following seasons, several of Batman’s future iconic foes became the driving force of the series while following Bruce’s path to discovering his inner hero. It’s imperative to point out that it doesn’t negate any of the success that Gotham had as a Batman TV show.
