Even though Batgirl is already a well-liked character among cosplayers, DC’s latest reveal of her identity and clothing is the ideal way to cap off the year.
One of the most well-known DC characters (particularly within the Batman property) is Batgirl, and now a brand-new cosplay chance offers itself as a real holiday gift for cosplayers. Like the other members of the Bat-Family, Barbara Gordon lacks superpowers, but she battles criminals using a variety of devices and her extensive martial arts expertise. But Barbara isn’t Batgirl at all in The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #2; instead, she’s a beloved Scooby-Doo character.
Barbara Gordon’s career in DC Comics has been incredibly turbulent. At first, Barbara was a respected member of the Bat-Family and frequently accompanied Batman and Robin on patrol and missions. The situation altered when Barbara’s career as a crime fighter was abruptly ended when she was shot by the Joker and left paraplegic from the waist down. After the New 52 line-wide reset, Batgirl regained her ability to walk and is back out on the streets with Batman once more. As Oracle, she had been keeping an eye on Gotham City and helping the Bat-Family from her wheelchair in her base.
Ivan Cohen and Dario Brizuela’s The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries #2 features Barbara Gordon, who is unable to don the Batgirl costume due to a rash on her face (as everyone would be able to see her identity). Barbara introduces Daphne to the Batgirl suit and leads her to Batgirl’s own private Batcave (under covert orders from Batman). Daphne dons the Batgirl costume after Barbara states, “Batman felt that you could help make sure that no one views Batgirl’s absence as a clue to her true identity.”
Daphne Transforms Into Batgirl As A Gift For Cosplayers Worldwide
The matter is not only quite entertaining, but it is also great for cosplayers. When two characters are combined to create new looks, the most creative cosplay of the genre frequently results (think of Marvel’s Amalgam characters, but these are entirely made by fans). Poison Ivy and Venom are only one example of two characters coming together, but Daphne as Batgirl would be a lot simpler to pull off because the two characters are so similar.
Many cosplayers are turning to the future as the year comes to a close in order to come up with creative ideas for their new looks for 2023 and beyond. DC’s Batgirl has historically been a reasonably popular choice for cosplayers, but the addition of Daphne creates a fresh and distinctive aesthetic. Future crossovers will undoubtedly have an impact on cosplayers for years to come as Batgirl’s exploits continue.
