A group of girls, trying to lead a healthy life and a never give up attitude that’ll make them BOLD, like never before. Let’s find out how The Bold Type promotes Women Empowerment?
The Bold Type first released in 2017 on Fireform and is now also available on the online platform, Netflix. This American comedy-drama TV series, created by ‘Sarah Watson’ is a story about three girls and how they manage their work/life balance and slay in everything they do by being together through thick and thin. The show stars Katie Stevens (aka Jane Sloan), Aisha Dee (aka Kat Edison), and Meghann Fahy (aka Sutton Brady) in the lead roles. The show also has some other important characters like Richard Hunter, Jacqueline, Adena, Ryan, and Oliver.
THE BACKGROUND
The series has moved onto season 5 which released a few days back. The 4 seasons have been all about all sorts of emotions – love, sacrifices, and most importantly friendship. The girls work in a magazine company named ‘SCARLET’ which is headed by ‘Jacqueline Carlyle(aka Melora Hardin)’ and the three girls have their roles cut out for them. While Jane is a writer, who is very inspired by Jacqueline herself and wishes to follow in her footsteps, Kat is the youngest social media head and is a tech-savvy who is bold and upfront about her opinions and very straightforward too, Sutton, on the other hand, is a personal assistant and is totally into fashion and designing.
THROUGH THICK AND THIN
The three have a very special bond and stay together through all times. It’s not like there aren’t any fights between them or they don’t have arguments but they continue being for each other. This millennial drama is very outspoken in terms of concept – it shouts “stealthy feminism” all along with the plot. Be it the head of the company Jacqueline or the cutthroat race to survive in the respective careers of girls, the show is all about the beautiful bond they share and how they are very vocal about being a feminist.
The show might be judged by its cover “The Bold Type” and that in itself might be sufficient to make your eyes roll out of your minds but it also has a certain viewership and a fan following that’s hard to miss. Being upfront about promoting feminism, there are various instances when the series truly displays this. Be it Jacqueline’s efforts to survive the print magazine when all the other board members wanted to go all digital or Kat’s outspoken nature when her ideas are rejected by her seniors. Jane is interested to be taken seriously as a writer and therefore she writes pieces about ‘strong women’ and Sutton struggles her way up the ladder by giving her 200% in whatever she does.
There’s drama, there’s nerve-wracking but through all this, their friendship is not wavered. The girls rush to the ‘CLOSET’ as soon as they have an emergency or they want to speak out about something but these little things make the fans go crazy for a bond like there’s. It’s important to have friends but it’s more important to have quality ones and if you have a ‘Quality Girl Gang’, you are very lucky and in one hell of a surprise, because no matter what, they’ll be by your side.
Let’s just wait for now for Netflix to release the latest version of this BOLD EPIC DRAMA.
