Spoilers For The Boys Season 2
Eric Kripke, showrunner for The Boys has discussed how the introduction of Soldier Boy will be allowing the writers to broaden on Stormfront’s treacherous past in The Boys Season 3.
Showrunner Eric Kripke told Entertainment Weekly, “One of the things I love most about the world in [The Boys] comic books isn’t just how fleshed out it is, but the history of it. It goes back 60, 70 years and it’s just as fleshed out as it is today. One of the reasons that we’re getting into Soldier Boy and that team, Payback, is we’re interested in exploring a little bit of how we got here. Through the history of the supes, we can tell a little bit about the history of America and how we ended up in the current fraught position that we’re in. Soldier Boy gives us an opportunity to do that.”
The Boys Season 3 Will Show The Narrative Of Payback
According to Kripke, The Boys Season 3 will exhibit the narrative of a squad called Payback, which he cited as “The Seven before The Seven.” Given her narrative as a real Nazi and Soldier Boy’s World War II heritage, the characters’ experienced past links the gap between the early years of the supes and the show’s present. As an outcome, The Boys will be eligible to improve on how and why Stormfront was able to impact the masses towards her alt-right notions.
Kripke continued, “There’s always been systemic racism and conflict and a lot of ugliness, yet always a fight to make things better. Certain politicians like to pitch this somehow idyllic ‘good old days’ where everything was perfect and calm. That is complete and utter bulls—. It was never that way. So, by exploring the history of Vought in the history of America, we get to make some of those points. There was never an America when they say ‘Make America Great Again.’ It was always a struggle. That’s the point. It’s a struggle to make things better.”
Kripke earlier teased Soldier Boy as his time period’s counterpart of Homelander, illustrating that “he’s from a different era, but he’s got the ego and the ambition, it just comes across in a different way because he’s from a different time.” The Captain America-esque part will be played by Supernatural star Jensen Ackles, reuniting the actor with old Supernatural showrunner Kripke a decade after the latter departed the series. The Boys Season 3 will be featuring the new plot.
Amazon Studios’ The Boys features Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko, Erin Moriarty as Annie January, Chace Crawford as the Deep, Antony Starr as Homelander and Aya Cash as Stormfront.
