One of the most iconic Superman stories of all time is the Death of Superman. The Death of Superman has made headlines as Dan Jurgens composed the tale. He has shown how the Man of Steel has met his end against the might of Doomsday. Though the art that is surrounding the tale is iconic, this is not the first and the only time where Superman is being killed in comics. Also, it could not be liked by many because of the plot.
Superman, Issue #149 is a three-part story. It follows an imaginary story that features the demise of Krypton’s last son. The tale begins by showing Lex Luthor who is discovering a mysterious rock that is Element Z in the prison. Luthor thinks that this could be used to cure cancer. He convinces the prison Warden to use the Lab and he creates a cure for cancer. Superman is shocked and believes that Lex Luthor has rehabilitated. Also, he vouches for him for his parole hearing. The comic features their growing friendship. The story features Luthor who thinks of turning his old lair to a lab so as to cure heart disease.
Superman and Lex Luthor Turned Friends
Starting pages of the comic show that Luthor is attacked by a few thieves. This makes Superman roam around him to protect his new friend, former foe. Thus, Superman creates a satellite lab for Luthor, where he can work without getting disturbed. He could be safe from goons there.
Superman goes to a greater extent to save Luthor. However, Luthor again attempts to trap Superman and blasts the Kryptonian with Kryptonite rays over him. He reveals that this was his plan to succumb Superman to the Kryptonite. Though his victory doesn’t last long. He faces Supergirl. He is captured by her and is tried by Kryptonians later. Luthor is found guilty and is sent to Phantom Zone. The defense now falls to Supergirl with Kara Zor-El taking over Superman as the defender.
This is an imaginary story, but an incredible story as well. It does not show Superman bringing back to life but shows Supergirl’s power and capabilities. It shows how she is capable of defending Earth against threats.
