The Eternals trailers might have just ruled out the possibility of Steve Rogers’ Captain America return.
Quoting Ultron from Avengers: Age Of Ultron, “Captain America- God’s righteous man”, was one of the best things that the MCU ever gave us. Making his debut in the MCU from “Captain America: The First Avenger” in 2011, Captain America instantly started to rule the hearts of the fans with his inspiring charm and a legendary wit. Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America went on to become one of the key members of MCU’s Avengers and Chris Evans, who played the role of Steve Rogers, became the face of the MCU alongside Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man).
Sadly, the fans lost him as their favorite super-soldier in Avengers: Endgame, when Captain Rogers decided to take an unexpected retirement and live the rest of his days in the past with the love of his life- Peggy Carter. Unable to accept the fact that Steve Rogers has left the MCU, the fans started out speculating different theories of how and when he could make a return as MCU’s Star-Spangled superhero, but the recently released Eternals trailer suggests otherwise.
Steve Rogers’ Current MCU Status
During the climax of Avengers: Endgame, we discovered that Steve Rogers decided to live in the past after completing his mission to return the infinity stones, he briefly reappeared in the present to pass on the shield and the mantle of Captain America to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). After then the whereabouts of Steve Rogers have been quite vague with no confirmed answer to put an end to the question. Sam Wilson too stated that Captain America was gone in The Falcon & The Winter Soldier and the rest of the world started to believe the theory of him living on the Moon. Although him being gone does not imply that he may not return since he was gone not dead gone, bringing him back would simply cause unnecessary conflict in the MCU now that Sam is Captain America. It would also ruin the happy ending that Steve wanted for a very long time.
Eternals Trailer Rules Out Cap’s Returning Chances
In the recently released trailer of MCU’s upcoming Eternals movie, we saw the heroes discussing the Future of the Avengers now that Captain Rogers and Iron Man are gone. We know that the Eternals have been living on the Earth for 7000 years, keeping an eye on the humans from behind the scenes. Since they are literal god-like beings it is highly unlikely that they would consider someone “gone” if that person had a way to return.
Therefore, if Captain Rogers are gone, that means he is gone! This also supports the previous statements of Kevin Feige, the president of the MCU, stating that Chris Evans’ Captain America is gone for good, which is not wrong because it’s time for new heroes to shine brightly in the MCU. Let’s admit it we all had a great time with all the amazing character we saw since the start but their time is over, these are new times which calls out for a new age of heroes and they are here, so it’s better to keep the old ones in our hearts and accept the new generation of heroes.
