The Godfather III is released with its new version. It is fully restored with a new beginning and end. Also, it is using Francis Ford Coppola’s original title.
The film closed his epic tale of the Corleone crime family. It began with his 1972 adaptation of The Godfather (novel) by Mario Puzo. The tale was nominated for nine Oscars and won three including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Puzo and Coppola.
Part II was released 2 years later. The film added Robert DeNiro to the cast. The sequel was a bugger success winning 6 Oscar from 11 nominations. DeNiro took home Best Supporting Actor, Coppola Best Director. The movie won Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. Coppola considered the Corleone tale to be told after the 2nd film. He was persuaded to write and direct the 3rd film after being offered a big payday.
The Godfather Part III is a bad movie that got 7 Oscar nominations. It is regarded as the weakest of the bunch.
Paramount Pictures Announced The Version Of The Film
Paramount Pictures declared they would be broadcasting a new version of the movie, under the ownership of Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone, which is the one that Copolla originally chose. Coppola has fully rebuilt the movie alongside his editors, comprising a new beginning, ending, and alternate takes of shots. Coppola calls it a “more appropriate conclusion to the Corleone story.”
“Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone’ is an acknowledgment of Mario’s and my preferred title and our original intentions for what became The Godfather: Part III. For this version of the finale, I created a new beginning and ending, and rearranged some scenes, shots, and music cues. With these changes and the restored footage and sound, to me, it is a more appropriate conclusion to The Godfather and ‘The Godfather: Part II and I’m thankful to Jim Gianopulos and Paramount for allowing me to revisit it.”
The re-release will take place on the 30th anniversary of the film’s release. Based on Coppola’s comments, it will be nearer to his initial vision of the film. It also enables Coppola to re-frame the tale correctly.
Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone will have a quick run in theaters in December. It will be released on digital and disc in 2021.
