The Haunting Of Bly Manor is the sequel to The Haunting of Hill House. The sequel is made by the same teams and it features almost the same members. However, the narrative is not connected so fans can directly dive into the Bly Manor if they have missed the earlier one.

The official synopsis of The Haunting of Bly Manor: “From The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy comes The Haunting Of Bly Manor, the next highly-anticipated chapter of the Haunting anthology series, set in 1980s England and based on Henry James’ 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw.”

“After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) hires a young American nanny (Victoria Pedretti) to care for his orphaned niece and nephew (Amelie Bea Smith, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) who reside at Bly Manor with the estate’s chef Owen (Rahul Kohli), groundskeeper Jamie (Amelia Eve) and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose (T’Nia Miller).”

“But all is not as it seems at the manor, and centuries of dark secrets of love and loss are waiting to be unearthed in this chilling gothic romance. At Bly Manor, dead doesn’t mean gone.”

The Haunting of Bly Manor will be encompassed of 9 episodes, less than the original series. Another key distinction is that it will have a ‘love story’ as well, according to Mike Flanagan.

In a statement about The Haunting of Bly Manor, Flagnan said: “In Henry James’ world, ‘romance’ […] meant mystery and excitement – and Gothic Romance meant horror and ruin.”

“Romance held buried secrets, supernatural agony, and the sense of encroaching doom.”

“Gothic Romance, it turns out, has teeth… and we have had a blast sharpening them for you all.”

While speaking to Birth.Movies.Death, he said: “We’re looking at all the ghost stories of Henry James as the jumping-off point for the season, so it very much is a whole new deal.”

“For Henry James fans, it’s going to be pretty wild, and for people who aren’t familiar with his work, it’s going to be unbelievably scary.”

“I already think it’s much scarier than season one, so I’m very excited about it.”
