In the first movie, Russell Crowe played the title character, Maximus, the titular general. However, a change of power at the top of the Roman hierarchy and a disagreement with the new emperor would cause Maximus to lose his position, reputation, and most precious asset—his family. Maximus tries to exact revenge on the person who killed his family after being reduced from a high-ranking soldier to a slave. According to Puck News, Scott is currently looking to hire leading men for a movie sequel. Many people who have been eagerly awaiting a sequel will undoubtedly find this to be good news. Other sequels have already been proposed, including one that was the unsuccessful and proposed reincarnation of our main character at various moments in history.

It shouldn’t be too shocking to learn that a Gladiator sequel is being cast. Scott, who intends to helm the follow-up, acknowledged in 2021 that a script for Gladiator 2 had already been prepared, stating, “It has been written, I see. It’s been written already. We have a solid foundation and a direction that makes sense. You cannot simply make another Gladiator-style film. There are enough elements from the first one for you to pick up the ball and carry on with it, so you must do so.” Following up on these earlier remarks, news that Scott is looking for performers appears to be moving the sequel’s development in the correct direction.

If we might get to see Crowe return in the starring role is the biggest concern for many who are looking forward to the sequel. The sequel’s premise is currently unknown, however, there are a number of directions it could take. Given that Maximus had passed away in the first movie, using paranormal means might help him reincarnate and appear in the sequel. Another way to enter that world might be to rely on Lucius Verus’ (Spencer Treat Clark) survival.
