Three more spin-off series of Game of Thrones are in development at HBO.
Game of Thrones is the legendary TV series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO. The series is an adaptation of the fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R. R. Martin. It premiered on April 17, 2011, and quickly became a sensation with its unique cinematography and storyline, and received a lot of love and appreciation from the audience all around the globe. Sadly, as all good things come to an end, so did the eight-season run of this fan favourite series and it concluded on May 19, 2019.
The show coming to an end was something, the fans were never ready for and it ended up in heartbreak. Luckily for them, the tale of Westeros is coming back on screen in the form of spin-off series at HBO. There are reportedly not one but six (three new and three previously announced) spin-off series in works that would narrate the story of Westeros prior to the events of the actual show. In May 2017, after years of speculation about possible successor series, HBO commissioned Max Borenstein, Jane Goldman, Brian Helgeland, Carly Wray, and Bryan Cogman to develop individual Game of Thrones successor series, three of which were announced to be in development by HBO.
The Spin-offs
Tales of Dunk & Egg
Tales of Dunk & Egg would be the spin off series that would revolve around the story of the Knight Ser Duncan the Tall, the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard and Egg, the future king Aegon V Targaryen, some 90 years before the events of the GOT.
Flea Bottom
Flea Bottom will follow the story of the poorest slum district of the same name in the city of King’s Landing, located on the eastern side of Rhaheny’s Hill. The show will highlight the tough survival in the maze like warren of narrow streets, ramshackle buildings, and dark alleys of the slum district where characters like Davos Seaworth and Gendry Baratheon were born.
9 Voyages
Bruno Heller, the screenwriter of famous shows like Rome and Gotham, would be working on 9 Voyages series which would follow the story of Lord Corlys Velaryon, the Sea Snake, Lord of the Tides, and an extremely busy guy, seeing as how he’s already appearing in House of the Dragon, played by Small Axe and In the Long Run actor Steve Toussaint.
House Of the Dragons
The series would tell the story of House Targaryen, the House that gave us the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen and take place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The filming of the series would begin in April, 2021, i.e. next month, making it the first spin off to enter production.
10,000 Ships
This series would focus on Princess Nymeria, the wife of Lord Mors Martell, and the Rhoynar. The title signifies the ten thousand ships that were used to transport the surviving Rhoynar after their defeat by the Valyrian Freehold in the Second Spice War.
Another untitled animated series in works that would follow the footsteps of GOT, although not much has been revealed about its content. It seems like Christmas for Game of Thrones fans, as they are receiving 6 different spin-off series related to the epic show. The series would likely carry on the torch of entertainment passed on to them by one of the greatest shows in the history of Television.
