The new surprising blockbuster The Invisible Man breathed life into the traditional creature genre for an entirely new generation of horror fans. Universal is anxious to try their hand at reimagining even more common and known beasts from the vault.
One of the projects at the prime of the list is The Phantom of the Opera, which has never really ebbed in vogue since its grand premiere back in 1925. The film, adapted from a 1910 fictional novel of the same name, was an instant accomplishment with critics and fans alike. In the decades since, the prosperous source material has been changed in cinematic format six times, twisted into a two-part miniseries, and unfolded into a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical.
The Phantom of the Opera Is Universal’s Priority To Retell The Story
It looks like a no-brainer that Universal would prefer to retell the tale of this artistic icon with one of Hollywood’s most bankable governing actors, then. Indeed, according to our sources – the studio reportedly has Ryan Reynolds in their pictures to play the titular apparition in The Phantom of the Opera. It’s presently unknown if the actor has any curiosity in the part, but we’re indeed hoping that he’s as delighted as we are about the idea.
The actual movie starred Lon Chaney as the disfigured Phantom, who created the lives of everyone at the Paris Opera House, a residence hell for years on end. The eponymous spirit frequently threatened the laborers and those in attendance with chaos and misconduct in an endeavor to heighten the woman he loves into a full-fledged star of the stage. The harmless pranks shortly turn into a cold-blooded massacre, though, putting everyone on the horizon as to what the demon will do next.
