The Queen’s Gambit achieved a major success. Netflix series casting Anya Taylor-Joy broke the records with 62 million people watching within the 28 days of release. Not only this, but the series also plucked up 2 major awards at the 2021 Golden Globes, including Best Limited Series or TV movie and best actress in the same category for its star Anya Taylor-Joy in the role of Beth Harmon. This recognition comes months after the series debuted on Netflix to massive popularity and critical acclaim, taking the streaming world by storm
The Queen’s Gambit was symbolized to be a ’finite series’
Queen’s Gambit’s first season was adapted from Walter Tevis’s 1983 novel by the same name. The plot is closely linked with the novel which comes to a conclusion that there is no matter left out to be put in season 2. Taylor-Joy spoke with T&C, saying she’s not going to say “never” to reprising her role but that she appreciated how her character’s arc resolved. “I adore the character, and I would certainly come back if I was asked to, but I do think we leave Beth in a good place,“
The actress said. “I think the rest of her life will surely be an adventure as well, but in the quest that she goes on in this to find some form of peace, just some form of being able to be happy with who she is. I think it ends in a nice place.” Despite confirming that a follow-up to the award-winning Netflix series wasn’t on the table, Taylor-Joy admitted that she would consider a return in The Queen’s Gambit season 2 if showrunners Scott Frank and Allan Scott asked her to.
The Queen’s Gambit Season 2 requires matter
It would take a while to materialize season 2 as it was based on a novel. Frank and his team would work up with Late Tevis’ Estate to script a storyline for the continuation of season 2. This may take a lot of time to make season 2 ready for Binge watching. And even if the script gets ready it’s uncertain whether Taylor Joy would be ready for filming the episodes as she is already been working on her next projects.
