It is quite shocking, right? To think The Vampire Diaries Klaus Mikaelson was originally going to die in season 3.
The Vampire Diaries Klaus Mikaelson has been a few of those villains that are loved more than the hero. His rebellious and carefree attitude along with his calm demeanor with a pinch of hot-headedness has attracted a lot of fans, girls and boys, alike. He received so much love that it ended up giving him his own spin-off series, “The Originals.” It’s a little annoying to hear that such a great antagonist was going to die just in the next season after his debut in the series.
Joseph Morgan, the British actor who plays this beloved character recently revealed that his fan favorite character wasn’t going to live on for so long in the series, and an early on death was what was planned for him.
The Vampire Diaries Klaus Mikaelson’s History
Niklaus “Klaus” Mikaelson made his debut in the second season of The Vampire Diaries. He was portrayed as the first vampire and werewolf offspring, which made him the original hybrid in the series. Like mostly antagonists, Klaus also had a selfish personal motive for which he came into the story. Klaus had a curse placed on him, “The Hybrid Curse.”
As stated above, Klaus was the original hybrid making him the most uncertain being in existence. In addition to that, he was a result of an affair that his mother, Esther, had with a werewolf villager, Ansel. Therefore she places a curse on him to suppress his werewolf traits. Hence, he came to Mystic Falls to try and lift his curse by killing the protagonist, Elena. Even though he didn’t succeed in his motives, he caused a lot of chaos and bloodshed in Mystic Falls during his stay there.
Klaus’ Original Fate In The Vampire Diaries
Joseph Morgan, who plays Klaus Mikaelson, recently revealed in an interview with Tommy Didario that Klaus Mikaelson’s original journey wasn’t meant to go beyond a few episodes. He expressed his own expectation that he had when he started playing the character all while mentioning the fans’ contribution to his character’s success.”…From the beginning, it was always thought that Klaus would die at the end of season three. So, I would come in at the end of season two, season three would be my big season of being this villain throughout the whole season and then the good guys would defeat me at the end of season three.
That’s what I wanted as well because it wasn’t my show and I thought:
“Well, this is great, I can springboard off this and try and get my own show and keep building my profile and use this as part of that.”
Then a few things happened. One was of course the degree of passion with which the fans responded to the character and the other was that I was just having so much fun playing [him] and I always felt that for the character there wasn’t enough room to grow in the setting of “The Vampire Diaries” he stated. Even though Klaus’s journey ended in the series finale of the originals, when the Mikaelson brothers decided to kill each other, it would be a treat to the fans if their beloved Villain returns on screen for one last time
