The Vampire Diaries fans were hoping to see Caroline and Klaus end up together. Unfortunately, that didn’t quite happen. However, the showrunner Julie Plec revealed the original ending for Klaus and Caroline.
Caroline Forbes played by Candice King and Klaus Mikaelson played by Joseph Morgan had a very passionate romance in The Vampire Diaries. The teen drama made them one of the show’s most popular couples. It all started in the third season; The Vampire Diaries fans witnessed the chemistry and sexual attraction between the two. Since then fans were hoping to see their on-screen romance. However, that didn’t happen. If you are thinking that Klaus and Caroline weren’t meant to be together then you’re completely wrong. The showrunner had a different plan for Klaus and Caroline’s ending but something in the Klaroline story changed when The Vampire Diaries ended. Find out what went wrong!
Klaus was a better romantic interest for Caroline:
Once Caroline turned into a vampire in The Vampire Diaries she evolved into a more vigorous character and she instantly became a fan favourite. There’s no denying it! Caroline had many romantic interests for many characters such as Tyler, Alaric, Enzo, and Stefan. But her connection with Klaus was way different than others. Their connection made many fans devoted shippers of Klaroline. Klaus Mikaelson was attracted to her beauty, willingness, and her intelligence. In fact, Klaus has mentioned to her directly a couple of times.
Klaus was known in the series as a big bad hybrid but after meeting with Caroline he revealed another side of himself: the side that could love. But at the end of The Vampire Diaries, Caroline married Stefan.
Julie Plec on Klaroline ending:
The Originals ending saw Klaus’s decision to sacrifice his life for her daughter. In fact, Caroline visited New Orleans to say goodbye and tell Klaus that she’ll never forget him. With a kiss, she left Klaus behind. But according to the showrunner Julie Plec, that wasn’t the original ending for the couples.
The Vampire Diaries and The Originals show-runner Plec told EW “Early on if you would’ve asked me, where does Klaus go when this is all over? I’d say ‘He goes to Paris with Caroline Forbes”
Further, she continued and said something in the Klaroline story changed when TVD ended. When Caroline married Stefan only to lose him soon after when he too sacrificed for his brother and the city.
Plec said “This is the right way to have honored Stefan. Because once Caroline and Stefan found love and got married and she lost him, it never really felt right to have Caroline move past Stefan’s memory to go travel the world for all eternity with Klaus, as much as they have a connection and a powerful bond. I really felt like Stefan’s memory was important to protect”
Well, now we know the reason. What are your views on it? Do you think the makers did the right thing to protect Stefan’s story?
